NEW IC CATALOGS
A very warm 🤝 to Mexican Summer’s publishing division (Mexican Summer Music) and library music catalog (Sunset Songs), who just joined us. Mexican Summer is an indie label based out of Brooklyn, NY that focuses on “releasing the work of adventurous musicians without the limitations of genre or form”. Some of their current biggest names are Iceage, Connan Mockasin, Cate Le Bon and Jessica Pratt and their alumni include Washed Out, Best Coast, Kurt Vile and Weyes Blood.
RECORD STORE DAY
We know it’s quite a polarising institution but whether you think Record Store Day is “a retail initiative that saved vinyl from extinction” or a chance to stand in line “to get gouged on artificially scarce items… on Black Friday with inflated prices”, it’s an event that celebrates music, shopping at indie record stores and being part of a community, and we’re big fans of all those.
Here are some RSD23 releases from the community that are (probably) landing in your favourite indie record stores (stock permitting) this Saturday, April 22nd:
Kill Rock Stars is releasing the Ryan Cassata (pictured above) record Greatest Hits (So Far)
Captured Tracks are releasing RSD exclusive physical copies of the DIIV record Live At The Murmrr Theatre
Flying Nun announced a newly remastered (and first ever) vinyl reissue of the Cloudboy album, Down at the End of the Garden
Fire Talk band Deathcrash release their third album Less this weekend
ORG Music are releasing seven unique titles for RSD this year, covering everything from experimental noise to 70's funk. The titles are: Albert Ayler - Europe 1966, Vopli Vidopliassova - Tantsi, William Hooker - Shamballa, Willie Henderson and the Soul Explosions - Funky Chicken, The Happy Dragon-Band - s/t, Larry Mullins + Mike Watt - TV Eye & Sun Records Curated by Record Store Day Vol. 10: A Decade in Love
Refresh Records will be releasing three records in celebration including a special release of the Goings record Red / Colorblind / Blue, which will be available on vinyl for the first time this Saturday at noon and also features the band's 2019 self titled EP on the b-side
+ Joyful Noise project manager and A&R Jessica R. Clark is celebrating RSD by… opening a record store. It’s called Everything Nice and has a soft opening this Saturday, so head to Ellenville, NY if you’re in the area for “new & used records, Italian espresso, books, magazines & more!”
