In the week where YouTube announced its partnerships with the music industry on AI and Aphex Twin fried the brains of half of East London (including mine), the IC community, as usual, released lots of great music.

The Worldwide Independent Network (WIN) has published its 2022/23 annual report, which reveals a milestone year for the global independent sector - the independent sector now accounts for at least 40% global market share and is responsible for 80% of the world’s new releases
AIM released the full list of nominees for the upcoming AIM Independent Music Awards, taking place on September 26th in London
The soft opening of the Fire Talk brick and mortar shop is this weekend where friends of the label will be spinning records on both Saturday & Sunday from 11am - 6pm. Find it at 67 West St. STE 101 Greenpoint Brooklyn 11222

YOUTH, a Manchester-based label founded in 2017 by Andrew Lyster, aka DJ Lyster with an output that spans“dubstep, electro, hip-hop, IDM, techno, wave and other experimental abstractions”.
Lake George Music Group, a label set up by Nicholas Britell to release his Emmy Award winning score for Succession.
Easy Does It Records, a label based in Nashville and Chicago that has released records by musicians/songwriters Brother Bird (aka Caroline Swo) and Josh Gilligan.

ALBUMS
🎧 Topshelf Records released The Window, the new record from Ratboys, which is Stereogum’s Album Of The Week. They say the band “…have delivered one of the absolute best albums of 2023” and we couldn’t agree more.
🎧 Father/Daughter Records released Goddess Energy, the new record by Who Is She?, a supergroup made up of Robin Edwards (Lisa Prank), Julia Shapiro (Chastity Belt), Bree Mckenna and Emily Nokes (Tacocat).
🎧 Captured Tracks released Left Hand, the new album from Becca Mancari, featuring collaborations with the likes of Brittany Howard, Julien Baker, and Zac Farro of Paramore.
🎧 INNI released Sounds of Summer Vol. 1 by Sin Fang & Kjartan Holm in collaboration with Fischersund, an artist-run perfumery and art collective based in downtown Reykjavík.
🎧 Kill Rock Stars released Homo Anxietatem the latest record from shapeshifting songsmith Shamir, which PASTE called “…loud, angry, grounded, delicate and splendid all at once...”.
🎧 Spartan released Leecheater, the debut album by the band Sisters, which features Jason Blackmore (Molly McGuire) and Mario Quintero (Spotlights).

PRE-ORDERS
🎧 Merge announced Quartet Plus Two, the debut record by Orbiting Human Circus, the new outfit led by Julian Koster of Neutral Milk Hotel. It’s out November 17th and you can pre-order it and listen to lead single I Cover The Waterfront.
🎧 Paper Cup Music announced The Mercy of Women, the new record from Dead Leaf Echo, “…a masterful post-punk, goth broth of swirling guitars, haunting melodies, syncopated beats and pulsating highs and lows”. Pre-save it.
🎧 Get Better announced Hands In The Honey Jar, the new record by Open City will come out October 6th. Pre-order and check out new single Blitz Kids Stay Sick.
🎧 Ramp Local announced that the new JOBS LP Soft Sounds comes out September 29th (pre-order) and shared the video for Allure, the lead single from it.
🎧 Joyful Noise announced the latest album by Mike Adams at His Honest Weight, Guess for Thrills, comes out October 20th. Pre order on VIP Magenta vinyl.
RE-ISSUES
🎧 Suicide Squeeze are reissuing a deluxe edition of These Are Not Fall Colors, the sole album by 90s Olympia, Washington band Lync, as a double LP. Pitchfork described their music as “a blurry expression of youth, fleeting and ineffable” and it’s easy to see why from the record’s lead single Pennies to Save, which you can watch the video for here. You can also pre-order the full record, “a captivating relic from a bygone era of tattered flannels and rough-hewn basement jam sessions”, ahead of its October 20th release.
🎧 Earth Libraries is releasing the first single from their newly-minted archival collection highlighting the legacy of madcap guitar legend Davey Williams, with this release focussing on his time with the short-lived Birmingham-based outfit OK, Nurse. Listen to Big Stan and No Mercenaries (both live).
🎧 Merge just put out a new tape edition of the seminal Neutral Milk Hotel record In The Aeroplane Over The Sea with Retrospekt.
NEW SIGNINGS
✍️ Merge welcomed North Carolina singer/songwriter Rosali to their family. She’ll release her new record with them in 2024 but ahead of that has released her first music on the label, a cover of the George Harrison track Stuck Inside A Cloud from his posthumous album Brainwashed. Check it out.

🖥️ H1 Massive released the new Teen Idle music video for Norway, containing home movie footage from her family vaults. It’s the latest single from forthcoming album NONFICTION, which drops September 29th:
