NEW RELEASES
ALBUMS
🎧 Houndstooth released stillness, softness… the “wonderfully meditative” (CLASH) new album by London-based Japanese singer and composer Hinako Omori. It’s already getting rave reviews, with Loud And Quiet picking it as their album of the week and calling it “…so textured you can touch it” in their review.
🎧 Merge released Jenny From Thebes, the new record by The Mountain Goats, the sequel to their 2002 album All Hail West Texas. Paste Magazine gave it a 9.3 rating in their review, while Exclaim! said that the record “…manages to truly distill the manic energy of the Mountain Goats' formative phase into a maturing yet vital shape, giving it a place in the upper reaches of their pantheon.”
🎧 Kill Rock Stars released IMPORTED, the new album by Santa Chiara. The project of Italian musician Chiara D'Anzieri, it tells the story of a transatlantic romance and everything that followed: Leaving her home country and immigrating to the United States at 25, building a first home together with Ron Gallo in Nashville, and ultimately leaving that home for a new one in Philadelphia, where the couple now resides.
🎧 Captured Tracks released the new Wild Nothing record Hold today, an album he wrote shortly after both the birth of his son and the onset of the pandemic. It got a 7.5 rating from Pitchfork, who note that it rekindles the magic of his earlier records, “…when Wild Nothing’s ’80s revivalism set a new benchmark for bedroom pop.”
SINGLES
🎧 Polyvinyl released Always / Never, the new track from Portland, Oregon indie rockers STRFKR. Josh Hodges from the band had this to say about the song: “Always / Never is focused on a feeling that time is slipping away, and the thoughts that can come with that. Like a shocking feeling that maybe you chose the wrong person to spend your life with, which lead to a sort of slow motion shutting down to them and to the rest of life.”
🎧 Suicide Squeeze released a new Kurt Vile cover of the Chastity Belt song This Time of Night. The Suicide Squeeze-issued 7” came out today with a one-time vinyl pressing limited to 1500 (250 pink, 250 black, 1000 blue) copies that you can get your hands on here.
