In the week where Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, George Michael, and Willie Nelson were inducted in to the 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the IC community, as usual, released lots of great music.

NEW RELEASES
ALBUMS
🎧 Fire Talk are dropping the “intimate and warmly inviting” new Mia Joy EP Celestial Mirror tomorrow! It sees the Chicago-based musician “…move from one stage to the next, as she delves further into her explorations on identity, self expression, and the people who come in and out of her life.” It’s her first new music since 2021 record Spirit Tamer, which saw her tour alongside the likes of Sharon Van Etten, Squirrel Flower and Triathlon. Check out the latest single from the record 4th of July now ahead of the record’s release tomorrow.
🎧 Polyvinyl released SUCKER, the new album by pop balladeer IAN SWEET last week. This latest record from Jilian Medford is “…full of anthemic indie pop anthems that will keep you dancing through all the emotions”. If you happen to be in London she’s playing a show tonight as part of the Pitchfork London festival, alongside Helado Negro and Crumb - tickets here.
🎧 Kill Rock Stars released Current, the “immediate, mysterious, and vital” (No Depression) 16th album by songwriter-poet Danielle Howle on their KRS Nashville imprint.
🎧 Defend Music are the publishers for Always Almost Home by session guitarist and singer-songwriter Paul Spring, which comes out tomorrow and fuses influences from 90s pop music to Bach.
SINGLES
🎧 Royal Mountain shared Suffer, the new single by Pillow Queens, which was produced by Collin Pastore (boygenius, Illuminati Hotties, Lucy Dacus). The band said about the track: “This one is really special to us and we hope it resonates with you in the same way. The beginning of something completely new for us and we hope you love it.”
🎧 Lovemonk released Le Havre, the third single by Saint Malo (classically trained multi-instrumentalist Javier Jiménez Rolo), wherein “…strings and electronic textures form a minimalist vignette of restrained emotion, combining calmness and impulse in a dazzling balance.”
🎧 Kill Rock Stars released Back Again, the new single by rising folk/americana band Roanoke.
🎧 Slumberland released Three Cheers!, the first single from the upcoming album Fairweather Friend by Bay Area indie band The Umbrellas.
REISSUES
🎧 Org Music reissued Pleasure, the landmark record by funk band Ohio Players. It’s available now on LP, CD, digital download and streaming platforms.
PRE-ORDERS
🎧 Dots Per Inch announced that Amiture – the New York-based project of sound and visual artists Jack Whitescarver (he/him) and Coco Goupil (they/them) – will release a new album, Mother Engine, on February 9th
🎧Get Better announced that Pouty (Rachel of Slutever / Upset) is releasing her debut album Forget About Me on the label. It’s out February 9th but you can pre-order or pre-save it and check out new single Salty in the meantime.
NEW SIGNINGS
✍️ GRADUATION* welcomed BenjiFlow to their roster and released their new single Abena this week. The artist and producer has collaborated with the likes of Oxlade, Nippa and Ruger and is now set for superstardom with his first solo song of the year.

This week it’s the documentary The War On Disco, which explores the culture war that erupted over the rise of Disco music in the late 70s and the hostility coming to a head on July 12th 1979, when a riot led by rock fans broke out at Disco Demolition Night during a baseball game in Chicago.
